New Beginnings as Planting Day Approaches.

Hello farming friends and family!
The weeds are starting to take over, and the ground has warmed up – time to weed and plant! The official day to plant is May 19 – all day Saturday. I’m more ambitious than is practical, and had hoped to weed the garden beds by then, but have been a tad busy with work and THE WEDDING! (Jess and Robb are happily far, far away from any gardening right now – in honeymoon heaven!) So, any random weeding volunteers are happily welcome, anytime you find you have an hour or two of time. I’m planning on picking up a ledger and keeping it on a table just inside the barn. Scratch your name in the ledger , date and hours of work, (perhaps a juicy note – art work appreciated as well!) and it will help us keep track of our co-op activities. The green house is where I store all the tools and gloves, or bring your own favorite.
I will have coffee, chocolate, and snacks for the 19th in the morning, and I think probably an easy bbq for lunchtime, for those die-hards. If you have plantings you’d like to stick in the earth – feel free to bring them. I’ll be picking up seeds, and plants as well (cukes, basil, tomatoes, eggplants, pumpkins, corn, pole beans, etc) AND the raised beds have some seedlings growing, but alas, most just rotted I’m afraid – weather, you know.
So I think we have to replant carrots, peas, bok choi, chard, lettuce, beets.
Dario and I are excited to see what the hops do – I’ll let you discover these interesting new plantings. Hope they are good climbers! Take care, and enjoy the sun that’s coming the next few days.
